OUR MISSION

Founded in Italy in 1989 by Carlo Petrini, Slow Food is a global grassroots movement dedicated to protecting local food cultures and traditions, countering the rise of fast life, and deepening awareness of how our food choices affect the world around us. That global mission is advanced nationally by Slow Food USA through education, advocacy, and community-based initiatives. It takes local shape through chapters like Slow Food Hudson Valley—our all-volunteer organization bringing these values to our region through events, partnerships, and community action.

In the Hudson Valley, the principles of Slow Food are already being practiced by many of our farmers, restauranteurs, chefs, vintners, brewers, and artisanal food producers. Slow Food Hudson Valley works to strengthen and connect these efforts by inspiring and educating our community, and partnering with like-minded organizations to build a food web that is environmentally sustainable, preserves cultural traditions, supports food that is healthy and delicious, and celebrates the joys and justice of food that is good, clean, and fair for all. We’re able to do this through the support of our members and volunteers, and rely on donations to continue our good work.

All donations to Slow Food Hudson Valley are tax deductible through our affiliation with SLOW FOOD USA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, tax exempt organization.
